Ophthalmologist Dilesh Gohil groped woman in “moment of madness”
Date published: 17 August 2016
Heywood ophthalmologist Dilesh Gohil, who groped a woman in a “moment of madness”, could be struck off after being found guilty in court.
The 44-year-old, who runs DG Opticians, ran his hands down a woman’s back and tried to massage her before “gripping her tightly” when she tried to escape.
In a statement read out by prosecutor Julian Taylor, the victim said the assault had left her feeling depressed and socially withdrawn. She struggled to trust men, and it had affected her relationship as well as her sleep. Her confidence had been badly dented and she felt embarrassed about what had happened.
Gohil, of Long Ridge, Brighouse, was sentenced to a nine-month community order with 120 hours' unpaid work.
He declined to comment.
