Taxi driver crashed due to frightening ordeal with robbers
Date published: 17 August 2016
Police are hunting two robbers who subjected a taxi driver to a frightening ordeal in the centre of Heywood on Saturday (13 August), causing him to crash his car.
The two attackers got in to the back seat of the man’s minibus in the early hours of the morning and pretended to be customers, before launching an attack on him and trying to take his money.
The driver managed to fight off the attackers the first time and they temporarily fled, before coming back for a second time and startling him to the point his vehicle collided with another car on Pilsworth Road, close to the junction with Bridge Street.
No-one was seriously injured in the incident.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed it is investigating and is appealing for witnesses.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
