Celebration at Deeplish Play Scheme

Mayor Ray Dutton and Mayoress Elaine Dutton presented certificates of achievements to children for their participation in performance, sports, speeches and arts activities at the Summer Play Scheme celebration event at Deeplish Community Centre.

Children were very pleased to meet with Mayor and Mayoress and spent time questioning the Mayor.  The Mayor also spoke to volunteers and children about the playscheme programme and activities in the neighbourhood.

Nadia Khan, playscheme helper, said: “The children have participated in workshops with GM Police where PCSOs gave insight of Police role to promote safer neighbourhood and Child Safety and have enjoyed participating with Link4Life coaches.

“The playscheme is supported by volunteers and funded by RADPAC.”

Councillor Mohammed Zaman said: “I thank the play scheme volunteers and all the staff involved for running the summer activities.”

Councillor Alan Brett also spent time in talking to children and finding out their views and stories.

Sohail Ahmad, manager of Deeplish Community Centre, said: “The play scheme is helping children and young people to become active citizens and involved in health and wellbeing activities.

“We are promoting positive activities for children, young people and parents to become more confident in supporting safer neighbourhoods.

“We work across other neighbourhoods where children and young people forge lasting relationship through sports, arts, and positive activities.

“We are proud of this year’s success and continue working with children and young people.”
