Wardleworth Youth enjoy a weekend away

Date published: 30 August 2016

Young people from the Wardleworth area of Rochdale enjoyed a three day outdoor residential on the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Organised by Youth Connections (YC), 16 young people from all over the Rochdale Borough were given the opportunity of a lifetime to partake in enjoyable yet educational activities such as raft building, quad biking and much more.

The activities allowed them to bond with each other and acquire life skills that will stay with them forever.

Youth Connections volunteer, Nurul Islam also had an experience which he valued thoroughly, he said: “From volunteers’ perspective, I was surprised at the amount of learning that came out of this residential.

“We did activities which helped many of the young people’s confidence and self-esteem.

“It was a great experience for both the young people and the volunteers.”

Another YC volunteer Jabaydur Choudhury said: “We’ve done this sort of project before but this time round it was extra special.

“With all the negativity in the area, it was refreshing to see young people from Wardleworth enjoying themselves and keeping out of trouble.

“We hope to replicate this every year with the support of the local community.”

The project was funded by the charity Henry Smith.
