Quirky 'Mini' flowerbed - money well spent?

Date published: 01 September 2016

A quirky flowerbed is capturing people's attention in Sudden - a Mini car has been used as the centre piece of a floral display.

The display has been well received by most with many admiring the creativity and originality, and it is without question delightfully different, however, questions have been asked on social media about the cost and if it is money well spent.

Rochdale Online asked the Council how much had been spent on the display, and the answer is just over £7,000.

Martin Taylor, Head of Environmental Management at Rochdale Council said: “The Mini installation is part of the council’s Big Clean 2016, a campaign to make the borough cleaner and brighter by clearing litter from streets and planting colourful floral displays in a number of prominent areas.

"Buying the Mini, preparing it for the site and installing it on a concrete base cost £7,140.

"The Mini, along with the other new planting sites, has been extremely well received by many people who have told the council how much they appreciate investment in their communities and local landscapes.

"It and the other numerous floral displays installed by the council were also highly praised by North West in Bloom judges during their recent tour of the borough.”
