Man arrested on suspicion of murder following death of a baby

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a baby in Rochdale.

Shortly before 9.30am on Tuesday (6 September) police were called by the ambulance service to a report of concern for the welfare of a child at a property in the Spotland area.

An eight-month-old baby boy was taken to hospital with multiple injuries and sadly died today (Thursday 8 September).

A 25-year-old man is currently being questioned in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.

A 24-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. She also remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector, Jamie Daniels from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is a deeply distressing investigation involving a small child. Our thoughts at this time are with the family, friends and all others within the local community who may be affected by this incident.

“If anyone has any information that may assist the investigation please call 101”.
