Funding boost for good causes in Rochdale

Date published: 21 September 2016

A funding boost is on the cards for more than a dozen community groups in Rochdale who are set to share an estimated £27,000 from the Co-op.

The launch of a unique new membership scheme on Wednesday (21 September) sees Co-op members receive 5% reward on purchases of Co-op own-branded products and services when they present their membership card, with a further 1% going to local causes and groups to make a difference in their community.

Groups set to initially benefit in the Rochdale area include: Rochdale Foodbank, Springhill Hospice, Oulder Hill Play Group, Rochdale AFC Football in the Community Trust, The Co-operative Heritage Trust, Rochdale (Whitworth) 41st Scout Group, Rochdale Heartbeat, Friends of Smithybridge Primary and the Littleborough and District Lions Club Charitable Trust.

Members of the Co-op can choose which of these causes they wish to support. Money will be raised over a six month period.

Keith Halliwell, area manager for the Co-op, said: “We aim to do business a better way, and what better way than to give back to communities as a reward for shopping with us. Our members have a unique opportunity to make a difference locally simply by using their Co-op card when they shop with us. Co-ops are here to support their members and the communities they live in and the money raised will provide much needed funding for organisations who contribute to improving local life.”

Co-op members are urged to look out for their new-look membership card which are being issued over the coming four weeks.
