CCTV for Hopwood Park

Date published: 07 November 2016

The Friends of Hopwood Park are planning on introducing CCTV and improved lighting to Hopwood Park to deter antisocial behaviour.

Over the past month, the park has seen various incidents involving fires, fighting and fireworks.

Chairwoman of the Friends, Sandra Trickett is planning on meeting with the head of the local high school to discuss the incidents.

She said: “The kids causing trouble are from all over Middleton and Heywood, so there aren’t students from any one particular school.

“The anti-social behaviour team at Rochdale Borough Council and the police are being very helpful; things are being done.

“We are very keen to get CCTV and lighting on the park to reduce this behaviour and to also make the park safer. The car park is pitch black and it’s a very busy spot with parents dropping off or picking their children up from St John's Scout Hut.

“It’s not safe at all.”
