Date published: 17 November 2016

After the battle to replace the stolen post box on Silver Hill in Milnrow, part of another has been stolen at the end of Severn Drive in Milnrow. The front of the post box has been stolen, with the rest subsequently being taken away due to safety concerns.

A replacement has been ordered and will be replaced imminently by the Royal Mail.

Councillor Andy Kelly has written to the Royal Mail making recommendations after the latest theft. He said: "The number of stolen post boxes have risen sharply in the past year. Close to 30 have been stolen altogether or had parts stolen over the last year in the OL postcode alone.

"I know that Royal Mail is planning to use forensic tagging to identify stolen post boxes and are even considering using electronic tracking to keep a close watch on post boxes. I believe that in the light of this latest theft, the Royal Mail should bring forward their plans to protect our post boxes."
