Peter Griffiths clocks up the kilometres for hospice pledge

Date published: 01 December 2016

‘Little and often’, that’s the byword of Peter Griffiths who has managed to clock up 1,000 kilometres – or over 620 miles - running to raise money for Springhill Hospice by completing weekly 10km runs up and around his favourite local area of Brown Wardle.

At the beginning of the year, Peter set the goal of running up this local landmark 100 times before the end of December. For each run he planned to donate £5 to reach his £500 fundraising target.

Peter’s passion for running has been contagious. He not only completed the challenge weeks early, but his fundraising total has also risen to over £3,500 thanks to an army of runners or walkers who have joined in over the months to support him.

The challenge captured the imagination of people of all ages who, with their children and dogs, banded together and added their own donations to Peter's.

Peter said: “It’s been a great few months and the support has been tremendous. I definitely feel and look a lot fitter and the Brown Wardle area will always be a firm favourite.

"Raising this amount of money for Springhill Hospice has been great and I am already starting to think of an idea for a new challenge that might take my fundraising efforts a bit further."

Said Springhill Hospice Chief Executive, Julie Halliwell said: “This is a phenomenal achievement by Peter and a huge amount of money to raise and we are enormously grateful to him. I would also like to thank family and friends who joined in to support him with so much enthusiasm.”
