Wardle Village Boxing Day Walk

Date published: 28 December 2016

Strong winds and clear views made the Wardle Village Boxing Day failed to deter over 200 villagers and friends on Monday morning.

Storm Barbara and Connor had done their best to put off walkers on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but the sun shone and villagers were raring to go at 10.00am to clear their heads on the 650ft climb from the village to the top of Brown Wardle.

Norma Brandon, GSL 17th Rochdale 1st Wardle Scout Group, said: "Many thanks to those walkers who came into our Scout HQ at the end of their walk and bought over 170 bacon butties.

"A really friendly atmosphere pervaded the building with many friends catching up with old friends and acquaintances they had not seen for some time.

"Wardle Scout Group raised over £500 towards Scouting activities for members of Wardle Scout Group in this 100th year of Cub Scouting.

"Thanks to those leaders, helpers and all who contributed to the effort of organising bacon, muffins, mince pies, tea, coffee and milk on the second day of the bank holidays – The Muffin Man did a special Christmas Eve bake for the Group to ensure sufficient supplies of oven bottom muffins at a time when all of the supermarkets sell out."
