Rochdale Online audience continues to grow

Date published: 05 January 2017

The already huge Rochdale Online audience continued to grow in 2016 - unique users averaged 176,051 per month compared to an average of 161,922 in 2015.

Launched as a hobby in June 1998 the website quickly became popular in the local community.

Pauline Journeaux and daughter Claire became the driving force behind the change from hobby to a commercial business in 2001.

The website saw steady growth throughout the early years but growth in recent years has been phenomenal.

Recent years have also seen a large increase in the number of users accessing the site via mobile phone, however, that figure has stayed static in the past year at 63.5% compared with 63.4% in 2015.

Pauline Journeaux, Rochdale Online Managing Director, said: "Every year we think the figures must have peaked but again this year we have seen growth.

"It obviously helps that we are an integral part of the local community, our office is based here and we actually live here, but the popularity of the site is also due to the reputation we have worked hard over many years to gain as a trusted source of local news and information."

Mrs Journeaux added: "I would like to thank our readers for their continued support. We are looking forward to continuing to provide the borough with a constantly up-to-date, genuinely local source of news and information in 2017."
