Councillors voting for a 34% increase in councillor's allowances
The review that recommended the massive 34% increase in councillors' allowances cost Rochdale Borough Council close to £5,500.
A Rochdale Online reader submitted a Freedom of Information request to Rochdale Borough Council asking: 'How much the Council paid for the Independent Remuneration Panel that reviewed the Council's Members Allowance Scheme.'
The response from the Council was:
'Costs for completion of the review were £5,453.70.'
The reader called the amount paid "bonkers".
Councillors voting to accept the 34% rise for themselves has caused public outrage.
