Local gym Forever-Strong Fitness and Performance Centre has raised over £1,000 for ‘Feeding Rochdale Homeless’ from a charity drive.
A number of initiatives were run throughout December 2016 after gym owner Gary Rothwell decided to raise money for a local charity during the festive season. Local business owners then offered donations on the back of Forever-Strong’s fundraising.
Mr Rothwell said: “December is a time of goodwill and giving, so we wanted to help.
“One of our members at Forever-Strong, Dave Taylor, cooks for Feeding Rochdale Homeless, so it made sense.
“Our gym is all about being fit for life with a focus on nutrition, so helping the homeless in Rochdale get access to proper food is important to us. We have a real community spirit at Forever-Strong, and it’s important to give back to the community wherever we can.”
Mr Rothwell says the gym plans to continue its connection with local charities. He added: “it’s not just about Christmas, we want to continue to give back to our community.”
Feeding Rochdale Homeless works alongside other homeless groups and other agencies to help people in the borough that are homeless or experiencing extreme poverty. Operating from from St Chad’s, hot meals, takeaway snacks, drinks, warm clothing and other essentials are offered.
A donation page Feeding Rochdale Homeless has received donations of £1,470, nearly three times the target of £500.
