St. Cuthbert’s going Global – E-safety Campaign

On Tuesday the 7 February it is Safer Internet Day organised by the UK Safer Internet Centre (https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/about). The day is acknowledged globally and schools from over 200 countries spend the week educating young people about the issues they can run into whilst using the internet.

This year there are two separate subjects for KS3 and KS4. KS3 students will be learning about “Selfies” and the risks of sharing images of yourself online or via instant messaging, KS4 students will be learning about “Digital Footprints” and their impact this can have on their futures.

To start our campaign off in school we decided to put an image on our Facebook page and see in 48 hours how many times the image can be viewed and shared and how far we can get the image to go, the totals were staggering, 365 people shared the image, over 22,000 people viewed the image and it was seen in over 25 countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UAE and South Africa.

The image will be presented to students to show them just how far and wide a simple image can go and imagine that this was a picture of them doing something wrong or naked.

Mr McCabe will be presenting a video and taking assemblies week beginning 6th Feb to discuss these topics and more with students.

Year 11 boys’ football team

Year 11 boys’ football team are through to the final of the Rochdale cup - a trophy they won last year against tonight's opponents. Although they started well and created two good chances, it was Cardinal Langley who scored with their first clear chance.

Again, St Cuthbert's were creating more but squandering the chances as with less than 20 mins gone in the first half they were two goals behind. Fabio Tavares was making some excellent runs and it was he who set up Faith Okayunde 5 mins before half time to reduce the deficit.

Kelvin Ade Coker came on at half time and he smashed in a shot from 20 yards to level the match. Cuthbert's were on top but Tavares had to come off to go and get his teeth checked so they did not manage to take any more of their chances.

The ref blew up early, after consulting with both managers as the light was getting bad, and we went to penalties. Jack Kelly was the hero of the hour as he saved a couple of the penalties and also scored one. Cuthbert's won 4 - 3 on pens- well done boys!

Under 14's girls’ football team

The Under 14's girls’ football team have thoroughly enjoyed playing in the Rochdale Schools girl's league over the past few months. The Super sixes final night was held on Tuesday 18th January with the B team finishing in 6th place and the A team finishing in 3rd place.

Year 5 Visit the LINC

Sacred Heart came along to complete their final session all about promoting their school.

This time they created Digital adverts which could be used on the school website or digital signage. The students were eager and full of enthusiasm as they created, animation video’s sound bites and selected uplifting music to accompany their work.

During the second part of the session it was time for the students to edit and create their individual adverts. We then watched their amazing creations as a group. Well done Sacred Heart.
