Former St Cuthbert’s students Axel Tuanzebe and Connor Ronan make FA Cup debuts

Axel Tuanzebe and Connor Ronan, two former pupils of St Cuthbert’s High School, made their Emirates FA Cup debuts on Saturday.

Ronan, 18, currently plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers, who beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield.

Ronan said: “What a win and what a game for me to make my FA Cup debut. Fans were unbelievable.”

Tuanzebe, 19, also made his debut during Manchester United’s victory against Wigan at Old Trafford, replacing Tim Fosu-Mensah with 23 minutes left of the match. The final score was 4-0 to United.

Speaking to MUTV after the match, the centre-back said his debut for Manchester United was ‘a dream come true’.

Jen Angove, PE teacher at St Cuthbert’s, said: “The community of St Cuthbert’s were beaming with pride this weekend as we watched two of our former students make their FA cup debuts.

“Both Connor and Axel are genuine, lovely boys who know the value of hard work and how much it pays off: just like many of our past and current students. There was a real buzz around school this week following their two performances.

“Both boys often come back and visit us whenever their busy training schedules allow, and it’s clear that they are both really family-orientated, which is lovely to see. It is a pleasure to have taught them and we wish them both the best of luck in their professional careers.”

Wolverhampton face Chelsea in a home match at Molineux in the fifth round of the FA Cup, tie to be played weekend 18/19 February.

Manchester United will face Blackburn at Ewood Park the same weekend.
