Helping Thistleyfield garden bloom

Date published: 28 March 2017

The Thistleyfield independent living scheme in Milnrow has been nominated as one of the local community projects that could receive a cash boost of up to £5,000 depending on how people vote when they shop at their local Tesco store.

RBH Activity Co-ordinator Rachel Saunders said: “Thistleyfield is a little community in itself. The tenants are a friendly bunch of people who come together throughout the week for coffee mornings, lunches and other activities. The residents enjoy looking at the gardens in and around the scheme but they feel that some areas could be improved so they can enjoy sitting out in the summer months and utilise the outdoor space. The plan is to regenerate four areas so they have the full use of the garden, with the hope of hosting garden parties and afternoon teas.”

Garden spaces help people relax, adds to their sense of wellbeing and provides a natural place to meet with family and friends. At little cost they can improve life for so many people. That sense of being back in touch with nature has a calming and positive effect as you spend time surrounded by the sights, smells and sounds of nature.

Shoppers at the Tesco stores listed below are asked to vote for Thistleyfield. You will be given a plastic token at the check out and asked to vote at the community board near the door for the project of your choice.
