Girlguiding Heywood members attend exclusive screening of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast film

Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and the Senior Section from Heywood Division attended an exclusive girl-only screening of the live action release of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast film.
Members from Heywood were among more than 26,000 Girlguiding members who attended the mass screening on Saturday 18 March, which took place at ODEON cinemas across the UK.
The eagerly-awaited film remake sees Emma Watson play Belle as an inventor, giving a feminist twist to the Disney classic.
Chloe, aged seven, who attended the event, said: “I had a great time watching the film with my friends. I woke up really early to watch the original before coming. My favourite part was the ‘Be My Guest’ song.”
Rachel Weekes, Brownie Leader, said: “The girls had a great time at the special screening. It was so nice to give them the chance to do something a little bit different.”
Andy Edge, Commercial Director at Odeon UK & Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Girlguiding to host these exclusive screenings of the magical Beauty and the Beast before it is released nationwide. Supporting the local community is hugely important to us and it was a pleasure welcoming so many excited Girl Guides through our doors to enjoy the new animation of the tale as old as time.”
Lead actress Emma Watson, who routinely speaks out against gender stereotyping, was voted one of Girlguiding members’ top 10 inspiring women in a poll last year.
