Date published: 12 April 2017

Preschool children from Sandbrook Park and residents at Half Acre House have struck up a friendship, breaking down barriers between young and old on Wednesday 5 April.

The children asked for song requests and one centenarian woman, aged 104 was delighted when she was taken back to her childhood with ‘wheels on the bus’.

Earlier on in the day, the children had baked some Easter bunny biscuits to shared with their new friends.

The group performances including the sharing of their new Easter book and singing some of their favourite action songs including old favourites, ‘Incy Wincy Spider’, ‘Baa Baa Sheep’.

Some of the children even had the residents up dancing with them.

Lesley Ryder, one of the care home managers, said: “All the residents enjoyed the visit. It brightens up their day. Sandbrook Park Nursery have been here before and the residents really enjoy these visits.”

Both young and old talked about all the exciting things happening over the Easter period.
Half Acre House organised an Easter hunt for the children, and the preschoolers were delighted to take their prizes home.

Katie Webster, nursery manager said: “The children and the residents had so much fun, and we can’t wait for our next visit.”

A spokesperson for Fisherfield Childcare said: “We noticed in a BBC documentary about the young meeting the old having a positive effect on both parties in Seattle, so we thought we would try it. It was a huge success.”
