St Andrew's, Dearnley St George's Night celebrations

Date published: 25 April 2017

Our wonderful celebration of St George's Day with Wardle Anderson Brass raised an astonishing £1,000 for church funds.

Church was packed for an evening led by Anderson Brass and their super young soloists, all under the guidance of Sean who, as ever, did a fantastic job in ensuring the whole evening went with a swing.

Our thanks go to Sean and the band; to chief organiser Ada, our very own piece of Aberdeen granite, and her helpers; to Janice and David who ran the bar; to Lord's the Caterers of Whitworth; and to everyone who turned up (about 140) to make it such a highly successful, enjoyable and, indeed, memorable evening.

We now look forward to the arrival of our new vicar, the Rev Rachel Battershell, who will be the next Incumbent of Dearnley, Wardle and Smallbridge.

Her licensing service will be held at St Andrew's at 3pm on Sunday, 7 May.

Although she is coming from the parish of the Good Shepherd in Ashton-under-Lyne, some of her family members live in or around Littleborough and, earlier in her ministry, she spent time as a licensed Lay Reader at St Barnabas, Shore.

Diary note: 10am to noon on Saturday, 13 May Roger and Jo will be holding a Coffee Morning in the parish room to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Christian Aid Week.

All are welcome to enjoy a natter and to support Christian Aid, whose wonderful work around the world is needed more than ever before.

Our main service of the week is held every Sunday morning at 9.30am and all are welcome. We are truly inclusive. The service is Sung Eucharist with a Sunday School for the little ones in the parish room.
