Date published: 28 April 2017

Indie rockers Razorlight will headline Rochdale Feel Good Festival this summer.

The band - fronted by lead singer Johnny Borrell - will top the bill for the 10th anniversary of the festival.

Razorlight were formed in London in 2002 and quickly became one of the key guitar bands of the following decade, selling four million albums, playing sold out arena tours and headlining festivals across Europe. Their debut album, ‘Up All Night’, reached number three in the UK and they won the NME Best New Band award in 2005. The album included the single, ‘Somewhere Else’, which reached number two on the UK singles chart.

Razorlight’s self-titled second album went straight to number one. The lead single, ‘In The Morning’, reached number three, and 'America’ went straight to number one.

After being nominated for two BRIT Awards, and two more NME awards, the single ‘Wire to Wire’ from their third album ‘Slipway Fires’ went to number 3 in the UK and they headlined London’s 02 Arena. They’ve supported acts including U2, Oasis, The Who and The Killers at some of the UK’s biggest live shows.

Rochdale Feel Good Festival returns on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 August, for another showcase of entertainment, food and culture.

The festival which is celebrating its 10th birthday will include live music across indoor venues, a main stage against the backdrop of the town hall, a quality food court and family entertainment.

Mark Widdup, director of neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council said: “We promised something very special for our tenth anniversary and are very excited to confirm that Razorlight will be playing Rochdale Feel Good Festival. This event goes from strength to strength and brings visitors into the borough from across the region. We hope thousands will join us once again to make this another year to remember.”

Ben Boothman, owner of main stage sponsor The Flying Horse Hotel said: “Razorlight are the biggest headliner we’ve had and without question one of the most compelling, maverick guitar bands to have emerged from the UK. Rochdale Feel Good Festival is a massive event for the town and we’re very pleased to be supporting it once again. Roll on August!”

Razorlight will be joined by previously announced bands ‘The Karpets’ and ‘The Bright Black’ plus many more soon to be confirmed.

The festival is funded by the council together with sponsorship from The Flying Horse Hotel, Metrolink, Rochdale Football Club, The Royal Toby, Rochdale Town Centre Management and other local businesses.
