Sam Clancy from Littleborough, who went missing during a stag do in Budapest, has died.

The 24-year old went missing on Friday (29 April) and had last been seen getting into a taxi near a nightclub and bar called Morrisons 2 in District 6 of the city, shortly before 10.20pm.

He became separated from the group and a national campaign to find him was launched by desperate friends and family. Sam’s fiancée, Becky Sweeney, and his dad, Carl, both flew to the Hungarian capital to look for him.

The former St Cuthbert’s pupil leaves behind a young daughter, Lyla.

It is understood Sam was involved in a collision with at least one car, and sadly passed away.

Tributes to Sam flooded in.

Sam’s fiancée Becky wrote: “I have loved you from the second I met you and I always will my Sam. Thank you for giving me the most precious little girl; I can never ever repay you for that. I'm just lost and I miss you already; my heart is breaking. I will love you until the end.”

Sharne Warner wrote: “I just can't believe what's happened. Rest in peace Sam. Such a lovely lad, my thought are with all the lads, Becky and all his family, not to mention his beautiful little girl.”

Hannah Porter wrote: “I cannot believe it, why do all the bad things happen to the best of people? My thoughts are with Becky and Sam’s families and friends at this absolutely devastating and heart-breaking time. Rip Sam, taken far too soon.”

Astra Littlehales wrote: “Sam Clancy, you were- and always will be- loved by so many. A beautiful soul snatched from a promising future with Becky and Lyla. My heart is well and truly breaking for your loved ones. Fly high and know you won't be forgotten.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Budapest. We are in contact with the Hungarian police and hospital services.”
