Rochdale Sixth Form hosts Mathematical School Challenge

Date published: 04 May 2017

Rochdale Sixth Form College welcomed four Rochdale schools to submit a team of math enthusiasts to battle it out to win the Rochdale Sixth Form Mathematics trophy.

The students took part in three intense yet fun thirty minute rounds where they were asked a variety of mathematical questions from simple additions and subtractions through to more complex problem and exam-like questions.

The schools that took part were Wardle Academy, Kingsway Park, St Cuthbert’s and Hollingworth Academy. The standard was fantastic and certainly impressed the organisers and Maths Specialists at Rochdale Sixth Form College.

Mark Szolkowski said: “It was fantastic to see all the students being so enthusiastic about mathematics. They all worked incredibly hard to win the trophy. It was a very close competition and at some points during the day it was difficult to see which school was going to win. I’d just like to thank all the schools and the students for taking part and I’m delighted that they enjoyed it as much as we did.”

The final result from the competition was as follows: Wardle Academy came first followed closely by just four points, Kingsway Park, St Cuthbert’s and Hollingworth Academy.
