The Summer Open Day held at Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum in Rochdale on Sunday was attended by over 800 visitors

The visitors enjoyed fire engines, hydraulic platform rides, fairground, face painting and sand modelling, as well as various stalls and craft demonstrations.

A highlight was the official opening by Barry McQueen, Town Crier of Blackpool, who welcomed everyone to the event with his bell and hunting horn after arriving at the museum on a vintage fire engine.

Bob Bonner, museum curator, said: “The support of people from Rochdale and further afield was terrific.

“This was probably our most successful summer open day ever and bodes well for the future of the museum.

“We are presently continuing to develop exciting plans for a major expansion into the former fire station building on Maclure Road in the next couple of years and should be able to reveal more in the coming weeks.”
