Sally Robinson, Diane Newton and Jason Corrin Powell to be ordained at Manchester Cathedral

Date published: 23 June 2017

Sally Robinson, Diane Newton and Jason Corrin Powell will be joining local parishes after being ordained by the Bishop of Manchester.

Sally Robinson will be ordained a Deacon and will be at St Michael, Tonge-cum-Alkrington, with the Revd Jackie Calow; Diane Newton will be ordained a Priest and will be at St Martin, Castleton, with the Revd Frances Guite and Jason Corrin Powell will also be ordained a Priest and will be in Middleton and Thornham with the Revd Martin Short.

Sally said: “I may well be the first lone-parent of a severely disabled child the Church of England has ever ordained. It’s rarely easy, usually complicated, and often seems ludicrous, but I have been hugely encouraged along the way by family and friends, colleagues, and the support of the diocese.

"I will be serving my curacy at St Michael’s, Tonge-cum-Alkrington and All Saints, Rhodes and Parkfield. I look forward to living alongside the people there and joining in with what God is doing.”

The Bishop of Manchester, the Rt Revd Dr David Walker, said: “It is an enormous privilege for me to ordain our new priests as they embark on this new stage of their ministry to our churches across Manchester and beyond. It has been inspiring to be part of their journey towards this great day, and I look forward to celebrating with them as they prepare to serve in our diverse communities.”
