Local schools compete at Greater Manchester School Games

School pupils from across Rochdale gathered at Sport City’s Indoor Athletics Arena for the opening ceremony of the 2017 Greater Manchester’s Summer School Games on Thursday.

Rochdale won nine medals: 

  • Hollingworth Academy – Year 7/8 Girls Dodgeball (Gold)
  • Lower Place – Year 5/6 New Age Kurling (Gold)
  • RBSGP – Year 7/8 Inclusive Quadkids (Silver)
  • Redwood High School – Year 10/11 Goalball (Silver)
  • RBSGP – KS2 Inclusive Golf (Silver)
  • St Joseph’s – Year 5/6 New Age Kurling (Silver) 
  • St Vincent’s RC – Under 10 Girls Mini Football (Bronze) 
  • RBSGP – Year 7/8/9 Goalball (Bronze)
  • Kingsway – Year 7/8/9 New Age Kurling (Bronze) 

There were 25 competitions taking place across Athletics, Basketball, BMX, Netball, Football, Rounders, New Age Kurling and many more.

Mayor Ian Duckworth said: “It was fantastic to see all those children and young people in the stadium. Many schools from round the borough took part. It made me very proud to be part of it all.”

“The choir from Parrs Wood performed ‘My Everything’ as they did at the Ariana Grande’s fundraising concert, it was very moving.”
