Rochdale Borough Liberal Democrats thank Rochdale Online
Date published: 05 May 2006
Rochdale Online's election coverage has been praised by Rochdale Borough Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Democrats are now the largest party on the Council, with 30 seats. In a nail biting night, the party picked up seats in Balderstone and Kirkholt, Kingsway, Smallbridge and Firgrove and Heywood North. They also saw Councillors Wera and William Hobhouse comfortably re-elected in Norden and Bamford respectively. The Hobhouse's joined the party, after being disillusioned with the Conservative Party having being elected in 2004 on a Conservative ticket.
Liberal Democrat Agent, David Hennigan said, "Campaigning is changing, of course we still use the traditional way of leaflets, newspapers and letters, however, the Internet is really making a difference in how we get our positive policies across in the Borough. Rochdale Online is the leading web site in the Borough and provides residents with up to date news. This election, the coverage on the web site has been superb - providing residents with information for most of the candidates. We were delighted to provide pitches for all our candidates and it was clear from the doorstep that hundreds of people had read them. As usual, the coverage was fair and unbiased and that is a credit to the web site that has establised itself in everyday life in the area."
