Work on the new Strand development at the heart of Kirkholt is progressing well and is on track to open on schedule in summer 2018.
The redevelopment will provide a new parade of shops and a community hub with a range of facilities, delivered by a partnership between Rochdale Borough Council and RBH. 16 new apartments for affordable rent are also being delivered as part of the scheme, with the help of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Greater Manchester based Bardsley Construction began construction in early 2017 and the new buildings are now beginning to take shape.
The new Strand complements the new flats for older residents opposite on Daventry Road, which have now been completed.
Clare Tostevin, RBH Director of Communities, said: "We're delighted with the progress of this landmark development which will help to revitalise the heart of Kirkholt, providing high-quality shops, homes and community facilities"
Councillor Richard Farnell, the leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It is really great to see the work progressing well and reassuring to know that the project is on schedule.
"There is a real buzz about what is happening on Kirkholt and everyone is looking forward to seeing the work completed.”
