Date published: 07 August 2017

Fundraisers at The Flying Horse Hotel and The Empire have raised £7,000 for Tony Agard’s family.

Tony, a 46-year-old ‘family man’, was reported missing on Friday 21 July after he was last believed to be at his home on Meadway, and was tragically found dead following his disappearance.

Sunday’s event at The Empire raised £3,550. Cover band Ranura took to the stage with host Dave Sweetmore, DJs Jimmy Mush, Paul Thompson and Jon ‘DaFox’ Riley and a karaoke set performed by Helen ‘Miss-H’ Louisa.

Refreshments were provided by AM to PM Catering, face painting by Little Unicorn and a photobooth and raffle prizes, including large cash sums, numerous vouchers for businesses boroughwide and football tickets, were also available.

A further £3,521.88 was raised at Friday’s open mic night, raffle and auction at the Flying Horse Hotel with the likes of singer Abbie Wild, and Jack Hargreaves and Jamie Buckley DJ-ing. Generous prizes were won, such as Dale and Hornets merchandise, a signed Manchester United shirt, tickets for both Manchester United and City, plus a variety of vouchers donated by numerous businesses across the borough.

Last week, £530 was raised through a sponsored walk and charity football match.

21 close friends and family of Tony took part in the two-hour walk on Monday evening (31 July) from the Oxford on Whitworth Road to Littleborough. A day later, Wardle FC held a game between their Sunday and Saturday teams to also help raise funds for the cause.

A fund-raising page was also launched to raise £5,000 towards his funeral and support his family, and so far £4,900 has been donated through the page.

All money raised will go to Tony’s family.
