Before their Friday night set at the Feel Good Festival, Rochdale Online caught up with the “Ultimate Britpop Experience”, Marblehead Johnson.

Formed around eight years ago, takes their name from The Bluetones track of the same name. Starting out as a cover band, ‘no-one else was doing it’ and things were history for the self-proclaimed ‘rockers in a Britpop band’.

Typically playing tracks by Oasis, Blur, The Stones Roses and, naturally, The Bluetones, the Welsh group had humble beginnings playing in bars before expanding to supporting bands like The Sherlocks and Razorlight, and paying festivals like Vangollen in Llangollen, Wales.

Speaking before their performance, their first in Rochdale, the band commented: “We’re looking forward to playing in Rochdale. It should be a good gig, despite the weather. We love performing ‘Champagne Supernova’ as it really brings the crowd together.”

With a powerful combination of passion and quality, Marblehead Johnson were the choice of main stage sponsors The Flying Horse, where they play on a regular basis. Manager Patricia Boothman said: “They are superb live, like your best-ever pub gig, supersized."

Marblehead Johnson are next playing in Northwich on 12 August before a packed-out September schedule.
