School crossing patrol officer Kath Slater retires after 12 years

Date published: 15 August 2017

The end of the school term also signalled the end of patrol for long time crossing patrol officer Kath Slater.

Following 12 dedicated years of service, she is hanging up her high visibility jacket for a more relaxed life in retirement.

Nicola Mcilvenny, school crossing patrol manager at Rochdale Council, presented Kath with flowers on her last shift saying: “She has been a pleasure to work with during the time I’ve been her supervisor, she is a caring person and she was always kind and considerate to all who crossed with her over the many years.”

Councillor Neil Emmott, portfolio holder of environment, wished Kath well: “I’d like to thank Kath for all her service, she has been a valuable member of the school crossing patrol service and her warmth and enthusiasm will be missed.”

The council currently provides 53 crossing patrols across the borough. All through the school year, come rain or shine they brave the elements to ensure children cross the road safely to and from school.
