Rochdale Borough Sports & Culture Awards

Mayor Ian Duckworth opened the Rochdale Borough Sports & Culture Awards held at Middleton Arena after guests were welcomed by members of the Youth Parliament.

Winners

  • Community and Education Project Award – Shine Youth Theatre (M6 Theatre and Barnardos)
  • Facilitator of the Year – Parvez Qadir
  • Culture and Health Award – Clueless (M6 Theatre)
  • Cultural Champion Award – Mark Doyle
  • Young Creative Award – Georgia Woodhead
  • School Commitment to Arts, Heritage and Culture Award – Wardle Academy
  • Sports Achiever of the Year – Azeem Azir
  • Unsung Hero – Lina Vincent
  • Changing Lifestyles Recognition of the Year – Catherine Szymanskyi
  • Volunteer of the Year – Sue Whitehead
  • Coach of the Year – Steve Connellan
  • Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year – Stuart Bloor
  • Club of the Year – North East Manchester Hawks Handball Club
  • School Commitment to PE and Sport Award – Holy Family Primary School

Sue Devaney compered the evening as well as performing (accompanied by Robyn Chicot). Other performers were  Roman Brezovskis – Football Freestyler, M6 Youth Theatre, and Azeem Amir gave an inspiring talk before a rousing finale by Wardle Academy Youth Brass Band.
