Chris Buckley takes on six half-marathons in six months for Milnrow Brass Band

Date published: 26 September 2017

Over the last six months, Chris Buckley has taken on six half-marathons to raise money towards Milnrow Brass Band’s trip to the Royal Albert Hall in October for the National Championships.

This is only the second time in their history that the band - a top-class group of amateur musicians promoted to the highest ranked Championship section of Great Britain in 2003 - have qualified, alongside the Foden's Band and the Fairey Band, to represent the North West at the Championships in London.

With no corporate sponsorship, the band relies heavily on community support, so Chris took on the challenge in April this year, beginning with the Sheffield Half. This was followed by races in Leeds, Huddersfield, Halifax and Fleetwood before ultimately coming to a close as he crossed the finish line of the English Half Marathon in Warrington on Sunday 17 September.

In total, Chris has covered just under 79 miles, and set a new personal best during the final race in just 1.44.07.

He said: “I would just like to say a massive thank you to all who have supported me with my running over the past six months. There are just over three weeks to go now until we make our way down to Kensington to compete at the National Finals so there is still time to donate, either via the Just Giving page or in person. All donations large or small are greatly appreciated not just by myself, but by all associated with Milnrow Band.”

At the time of publication, over £400 has been raised.
