Milnrow Band Rochdale Brass Band contest champions 2017

Milnrow Band were the contest champions of the Northwest Area Brass Bands Association's Brass Band Festival held at Rochdale Town Hall over the weekend.

Milnrow’s performance, with Mark Bentham at the helm, gained it the Charles Fradley Memorial Cup and £450 in prize money, in addition a clutch of other awards.

The best instrumentalist award of the James Cartledge Challenge Cup went to Milnrow soprano player Chris Musgrave.

By being the highest placed NWABBA band Milnrow were also awarded The Len Hinchley Memorial Cup and the percussion section earned a special award in memory of Matthew Densfield, presented by his parents David and Susan, for being the best percussion group in the First or Championship sections.

Ken Watts, Milnrow Band President said: “Milnrow Band had an excellent result thus maintaining the standards it has achieved this year.

“A very successful contest for Milnrow Band.”

The Youth Section contest was held on Saturday with three bands competing, Oldham Music Centre Youth, Rochdale Metropolitan Youth and Whitworth Vale and Healey Youth. The adjudicator was Phil Shaw.
