Hundreds of people, led by Wardle Academy Brass Band, assembled in the Village Square before parading along Ramsden Road and Wardle Road and on to Wardle Memorial Gardens.

The Mayor and Mayoress, Ian and Christine Duckworth, Tony Lloyd MP, Lord Lieutenant Ian Sandiford along with service veterans, local councillors, uniformed organisations and groups gathered along with local people, three deep on the surrounding footpaths, paying their respects and remembering those who gave their lives serving their country.

The last post sounded followed by a two-minute silence and the Reveille.

The Kohima Epitaph was then read ‘When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.'

Wreaths were laid by local dignitaries and local uniformed organisations.

Following the service, the National Anthem was sung, and Wardle and Smallbridge Community Centre was open for refreshments.
