Matthew Moss High School celebrate Grandparents’ Day

Date published: 20 November 2017

Matthew Moss High School celebrated Grandparents’ Day on Thursday 9 November.

Karen Neville, Head of Business and Finance, said: “Learners welcomed their guests into the ‘cafe’ and served them with homemade cakes, biscuits and hot drinks.”

Grandparents had time to enjoy the table games before listening to the school author in residence talk about the many benefits of reading together. Mrs Walters from the English department built on this theme and offered the grandparents a free book to enjoy together.

Liz Cootes, Learning Mentor, said: “In the ‘making together’ section we saw fantastic collaboration as the families created their soap and designed their photograph frames using computer graphics software.

“The event ended with a science extravaganza led by the learners. The group used chemical reactions to create polymer worms and undertook a flame test to indicate the presence of metals such as copper and lithium in the sample.”
