Wardle Academy Music Department

Members of the Wardle Academy brass band played at the funeral of Pam Anderson, wife of first head teacher of Wardle High School William Anderson.

The band played the beautiful arrangement of ‘Dear Lord and Father of Mankind’ which had been especially asked for.

A spokesperson said: "The band had the difficult task of playing at the grave side, but played extremely well."

On the evening of Friday 1 December the School Band played at Smithy Bridge Primary School for their Christmas fair from 5:00pm till 7:00pm. Their programme included many Christmas favourites which were very well received.

Wardle Academy Junior Band performed at the Littleborough Christmas lights switch on with over 500 people attending the event.

A spokesperson said: "It was great for all of Wardle Academy’s students to come together to perform under the guidance of Wardle Academy’s performing arts team."

Wardle Academy  students have been involved in the Co-op’s Christmas advert for 2017. A number of students from Wardle Academy folk group were invited to a studio in Manchester to record the backing track for the advert, including the string and percussion parts of the soundtrack.

Two Year 9 students were chosen to be two of the main actors in the advert. Filming took place at Wardle Academy, at the Halle in Manchester and at Lobden Golf Club in Whitworth. Around 35 Wardle Academy students were involved.

A spokesperson said: "These outstanding achievements are a credit to the dedication of Wardle Academy’s young musicians and their musical tutors who give up their time and work extremely hard to create such wonderful opportunities."
