Date published: 15 December 2017

Sheila Downey, Rochdale Borough Council director of adult services, is retiring.

Councillor Iftikhar Ahmed, cabinet member for adult care, said: “Sheila has been a fantastic director who has superbly led the service, within budget, for the last eight years. She has been the vision and driving force behind many innovative and award winning policies like the Intermediate Tier Service. She will be a huge loss for the council and we wish her well for the future.”

Sally McIvor, the council's director of integrated commissioning, has taken on the role of director of adult services.

The strategic commissioning and director of adult services position is a key leadership role in the integration of health and social care services, which is happening across the borough and Greater Manchester.

Ms McIvor said: "This is an exciting challenge and I am looking forward to building on the many achievements and success stories in adult care service as its director."
