Heybrook crowned Rochdale Primary School five-a-side football champions for fifth consecutive year

Heybrook won the annual Rochdale Primary School five-a-side football tournament was held at Falinge Park High School.

Seven schools from across the borough qualified for the finals; Heybrook, Healey, Shawclough, Spotland, All Saints, Meanwood and Greenbank.

The Heybrook children involved were a mix of year five and six pupils: Ali, Jamal, Abdul, Tenny, Temmy, Aminoor and Fahad.

The tournament was played in two groups with each game lasting a total of seven minutes.
The teams with most points from each group would qualify for the final.

The first game was between Heybrook and Meanwood.

Heybrook opened the scoring in the first minute and went on to score a further two goals to win the match 3-0.

The defending champions turned on the style to win all of their remaining group games scoring a total of six goals and conceding none.

Next was the final where Heybrook came up against a strong Healey side. With expectations high, it was a thrilling game dominated by Heybrook.

Heybrook were crowned champions for a fifth consecutive year.

Mr Hussain, coach of the Heybrook team, said: “Champions five years in a row is an unbelievable achievement and goes to show the quality we are consistently producing.

“It was a very competitive tournament with some excellent football being played so to have won it without conceding a single goal makes us extremely proud of the boys.

“The team received amazing compliments from both spectators and coaches from the other schools involved.”
