Gas leak in Castleton

Date published: 15 January 2018

A leak from a gas mains pipe was discovered on Royle Barn Road on Friday (12 January).

Engineers were called out shortly after midday and detected low level gas readings, which was later discovered to be to a leak from a mains gas pipe.

A spokesman for gas network Cadent said: “We got called out just after midday to this address, after reports that people could smell gas.

“Our engineers arrived quickly to determine what was causing it. We detected gas readings in five properties nearby, but at low levels, so not at levels that would need us to evacuate them.”

The repairs will now be monitored for five days before the road is reinstated.
