Date published: 02 February 2018

Officers investigating a serious collision with a cyclist in Heywood are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The cyclist, on an EBC Fireball Electric Mountain Bike, was travelling on Hareshill Road, Heywood before turning right onto Hill Top Road.

Immediately turning right across a carriageway, towards the entrance of Yearsley Group facility, the bike was involved in a collision with a burgundy/maroon coloured Toyota Auris.

Emergency services attended and the 37-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital where he is in a serious condition.

Hareshill Road and Hill Top Road were closed for around five hours as officers carried out their enquiries but all closures have now been lifted.

Senior Investigating Officer Neil Pennington of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are continuing with our enquiries today and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or any of the events leading up to it to get in contact.

“You may have seen the EBC Fireball Electric Mountain Bike in the area prior to the collision or something else that would help us with our investigation.

“You can call us directly to pass on any information.”

Anyone with information should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting reference number 1327 of 01/02/18 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
