Outcome of Town Hall Heritage Lottery bid 'expected in April'

Date published: 16 February 2018

The outcome of the December Heritage Lottery bid to renovate Rochdale Town Hall is expected in April.

A Stage One bid for the Town Hall was initially submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in December 2016. It was rejected after a revision in July 2017.

Rated as a high priority, the previous bid was ultimately rejected due to the lack of available funds. With only £40m available for 22 bids totalling £224m, it was inevitable that most applicants would be left disappointed.

A spokesperson for Rochdale Township said: “The HLF bid was submitted in December, and the outcome is expected in April. There are plans for further works on the area in front of the Town Hall which would result in removal of the flower beds, and possibly the four lighting columns.”
