Katie McGlynn to take on Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run

Actress Katie McGlynn is swapping the ‘street’ for the start line when she takes on the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run on Sunday 20 May for the first time.

Rochdale-born Katie, 24, who plays Sinead Tinker on Coronation Street, will run the Manchester 10k in memory of her grandad, and to raise funds for Springhill Hospice which cared for him.

She said: “The hospice is important to me personally as it is a small local charity and cared for my grandad when he was severely ill with prostate cancer.

“Therefore I would like to support it by raising money from the run.”

Katie will join thousands of people of all ages and abilities at a running celebration in the heart of Manchester city centre.

She said: “I am running the Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run as I see it every year and kick myself for not trying it.

“Events like this are important to Manchester as the amount of people who get involved show what a great city it is. It proves we are a caring community.”

se passes the famous cobbles of Coronation Street’s new set, and Katie will be following in the footsteps of Corrie counterparts Kym Marsh, Sally Dynevor and Denise Welch, who have all taken on the 10k.

She added: “I haven’t had chance to speak to any of my colleagues yet but other friends I know who have taken part have said it’s amazing and I’ll love it. I just need to make sure I’m prepared!”

“I’ve never ran before, I’ve started training and it’s going well so far. I’m enjoying it and looking forward to it.”
