Approximately £1,300 has been raised towards a 21-year-old’s funeral.

A charity headshave at the Royd’s Arms raised £500 when Reece Tancock, 24, of Spotland, braved the shave at the pub earlier this month to raise funds towards the funeral of Kavana Taylor, who died in a collision in Castleton on 1 April.

Reece, who was a friend of Kavana’s, had his hair shaved by Becky Davies from TanTropics Salon on Rooley Moor Road.

An additional £800 has also been raised through Spotland resident Joanne Hines’ group, Rochdale Rafflers.

Joanne, 33, said: “In the past two weeks, we have had loads of donations from salons, takeaways and memorabilia like signed football shirts.

“We are meeting with Kavana’s mum later today (Monday 23 April) to give her the contributions.”

Kavana’s funeral took place on Friday (20 April) at Holy Family Church in Kirkolt before committal at Rochdale Crematorium and a wake at The Empire, Rochdale.

A memorial to Kavana has been established on the corner of Maltings Lane and Manchester Road, near the railway station, becoming known locally as ‘Kav’s Corner’.
