Redwood students help plant wildflower seeds

Date published: 22 May 2018

Students from Redwood Secondary School helped out sowing wildflower seeds in Denehurst Park.

James Fallows, a teacher from Redwood Secondary School said: “A group of year seven and year nine students worked with the park rangers to prepare the ground and sow the seeds ready for the flowers to bloom over the summer months.

“The enthusiasm from the young people was infectious and many members of the community stopped to watch, ask questions and comment on how delighted they are with the transformation of the park.”

A spokesperson for the council said: “Redwood have been helping with the redevelopment of the park over the past year or two through consultation and other practical activities. Due to their proximity to Denehurst, they are very keen to continue working with the Council and improve the park.

“It was a perennial wildflower seed mix that they were sowing on this occasion. The seeds were added to sand to bulk up the mix and make spreading.

“14 students were involved on the day, a huge 3,000m2 area was achieved.”
