Lidl store approved for Littleborough

Date published: 31 May 2018

Planning permission for a Lidl store in Littleborough was unanimously approved at the Planning and Licensing Committee on Wednesday (30 May).

An agent on behalf of the applicant addressed the committee, saying the business would bring 40 full-time jobs to the area. He added they would begin work on site ‘as soon as possible.’

Councillor Phil Burke said the application as “a golden opportunity to welcome a big supermarket to the borough.”

Planning permission was granted subject to a (Section 106) contribution of £90,000 towards a signalised crossing on Church Street, public realm improvements in Littleborough centre and extending the Traffic Regulation Order on Stockton Street.

The Stockton Street store will have a 1,104m² sales area, including an instore bakery, customer toilets and parking for cars and bicycles.

The planned store in Littleborough will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio of 680, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which will see it open up to 60 new stores a year.
