The Human Aid carwash near BACP
Volunteers made a local record-breaking £3,600 during their seventh annual car wash on Sunday 10 June.
During Ramadan, a month of giving, the young community members of the Wardleworth area in Rochdale decided to take the initiative to raise money for the less fortunate in Syria.
The team of 20 youngsters set up a car wash outside BACP (Bangladesh Association and Community Project) in aid of orphans in Syria.
The volunteers raised £3,600 on the day, more than they had expected.
The funds will help towards building a village for orphans and widows inside the forgotten lands of Syria.
A Human Aid volunteer mentioned how he felt it was his responsibility to volunteer and support the Syrian orphans as he has many privileges that Syrians wouldn’t dare to dream about.
He added: “This car wash is just a step towards providing help to others but it is not enough.
"The media does not report everything but we feel the pain our fellow humans are enduring in these oppressed lands.
"I hope we can continue to support our fellow brothers and sisters around the world with our prayers and aid.”
The event was organised by Human Aid, a charity that promotes sustainable economic and social development within local communities from all walks of life. It currently has work ongoing in various regions internationally including Africa, the Middle East, South Asia as well as in the United Kingdom.
