Speed camera called for at Castleton junction

Date published: 24 August 2018

A man has called for speed cameras to be installed a junction in Castleton after narrowly avoiding a collision.

Rex Arnold and his family were driving out of the Nixon Street junction onto Manchester Road earlier this week, when he was almost involved in an accident.

He said: “The light was on green but a bus coming from Rochdale nearly jumped the lights on red and a white BMW nearly hit us, just dodging the lights. I had the wife and kids in the car.

“I did report it to the council but not the police as I could not get through on 101.

“I’m going to start a petition for speed cameras.”

A spokeswoman for Rochdale Borough Council said: “Residents are able to contact Rochdale Borough Council if they feel a speed camera is required on a particular road.

“When a recommendation is made our highways team will undertake investigation to see if any incidents have taken place and to explore any relevant statistics for that area, and if appropriate, a speed survey will be undertaken.”
