Mayor Mohammed Zaman presents certificates at Deeplish Community Centre
Deeplish Community Centre volunteers were awarded certificates by Mayor of Rochdale, Mohammed Zaman and ward councillor, Sameena Zaheer on Thursday.
The certificates were presented in leadership of sports, arts and community work skills, plus first aid, food and hygiene, community leadership and sports work.
All the volunteers have been engaged over the summer, supporting family fun days, play scheme programmes at the centre and outdoor activities.
Mayor Zaman said: “I am really pleased to see new volunteers trained every year and taking active roles in supporting community projects which are run and supported by the community. Without their support, we cannot achieve valuable and successful delivery of projects and programmes.
“I know how hard Deeplish Community Centre is working and I am proud to see how they are making a real difference in the life of children, young people and adults in developing skills and confidence.
“Despite reduced resources, it is amazing how children and young people are happy, positive about their participation and reaching their full potential and confidence in a friendly and fun-based environment.”
He thanked all volunteers, staff and the management committee for putting their time and effort into providing a diverse range of activities, programmes and services for the local community, and Sohail Ahmad, operations manager, for providing opportunities for all, including volunteers.
Mohammed Saleem JP, chairman of Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We are pleased to work in partnership with the local community, especially young people getting involved and having opportunities for training, education and empowerment.
“I am pleased to see young people engaged, both in and out of school and college activities, building experience and achieving excellence in all areas.”
