Michael Bamford to brave the shave

Date published: 13 September 2018

Michael Bamford will ‘brave the shave’ to raise £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support on 22 September.

He said: "This is a charity that is close to my heart, the nurses involved play a massive part in the treatment of cancer. As I am blessed with a full head of hair and spend hours keeping it in tip top condition, it will be a crying shame to see my golden locks lying on a floor.

"I do this by choice: many cancer sufferers have no choice and I stand with them."

Michael, who runs Reuse Littleborough – entirely run by volunteers who aim to reuse many everyday items that would otherwise end up in the bin – was amongst those who braved the shave last year at Hare Hill House's Macmillan Coffee Morning, raising well over £500.

Since 2015 Macmillan’s brave shavers have raised over £16.8 million for cancer research.

The first coffee morning took place in 1990. It was a small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, it was repeated again the next year, this time nationally.

Since then, coffee mornings have raised over £165.5 million for Macmillan.
